Church of Scientology, European Journey for Religious Freedom

English   Français

In summer 1999, the Human Rights Office of the Church of Scientology is organizing a European Marathon for Human Rights — a 13-week run that started in Athens on July 22 with a concert for human rights attended by 8,000 people.

The runners are crossing 7 countries and 4,500 kilometers before the Marathon ends with a multi-faith festival for human rights in Hamburg on October 25, 1999.

The Church’s Human Rights Office has also published a booklet to commemorate the first European human rights marathon last year. The booklet describes the 3,500 kilometer run from East Grinstead, England to Frankfurt, Germany to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The aim of both marathons is to raise human rights standards in Europe and to end governmental religious discrimination, especially in Germany and France.

“Price of Freedom:
Constant alertness, constant willingness
to fight back.
There is no other price.”
L. Ron Hubbard

“Human Rights are your rights.
Seize them. Defend them.
Promote them. Understand them and
insist on them. Nourish and enrich them.”
Kofi Annan,
Secretary-General of the United Nations
