The runners are welcomed at the Austrian border.

It is not altogether surprising, therefore, that the European Journey for Religious Freedom encountered opposition from Austrian government officials even before it entered the country. They tried to prevent a celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Innsbruck, the only city visited by the European Journey where this was attempted.

The effort was unsuccessful, largely due to intervention by the Friends of the United Nations. In the end, a religious freedom concert was held in the streets of Innsbruck.
