The 1999 European Marathon for Human Rights

The European Marathon for Human Rights starts in Athens, birthplace of democracy. After the “Torch of Freedom” is lit at the Acropolis, the runners cross more than 4,000 kilometres of Europe. As in 1998, the final event is a thousands-strong celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Both the 1998 European Journey for Religious Freedom and the 1999 Marathon for Human Rights are coordinated by the Church of Scientology Human Rights Department with the support of religious and human rights leaders, including Irving Sarnoff of Friends of the United Nations.
